Scrabble Tile Charms

Maybe you've seen the super cool Srabble tile charms that are floating around craft shows, and gift shops now and thought, "Hey, I could make that!" Well I thought that too. So I made a bunch and thought I'd share how to make them!

First, you have to start with Scrabble tiles. I think I had over 300. I bought mine on Ebay and Etsy, but you could even find a Scrabble game and just use the pieces for jewelry!

I gathered all my supplies. First, you need a printed collage sheet of letters. You can find them for sale on Etsy (by searching under "supplies" for "scrabble tile collage sheet") or download mine here. I used a sticker machine to adhere the paper to the tiles, but you can use Elmer's. I haven't tried a glue stick, but imagine it would work. And lastly, you need some Alene's Diamond Glaze. It gives your tiles that fun sheen.

Cut out the letters from your collage sheet and pair it with a Scrabble tile. I prefer to trim the paper so that it's just a tiny bit smaller than the face of the tile. I also prefer to match my design letter with the same letter Scrabble piece so that you can have a reversible charm!

I then made my paper pieces into stickers and adhered them to the tiles, but you can adhere them with Elmer's or possibly double-stick tape.

Here's a bunch of my Scrabble tiles ready for the Diamon Glaze.

Apply a thin layer of Diamond Glaze to each tile. A thick layer of glaze will make the white parts of the paper look more transparent. You can add additional layers of glaze to make it thicker after the first layer has dried.

Use a safety pin to pop any bubbles in the glaze. Lay the tile flat and allow it to dry overnight.

Once the tiles are dry, you can glue a bail onto the back and be finished. I chose to save a little money and skip the bail and make my own with wire. This also allows the tile to be reversible.

I drilled a hole in each tile. Before you do this, make sure you have a fully charged battery in your drill! I used a 5/64" drill bit and set the tile on a scrap 2x4 I had laying around. This allowed me to have something to drill into rather than risk drilling through my table.

Make a loop with wire (or attach a jump ring if you have one big enough). I used 22 gauge wire to make my loops. For basic instructions on how to make the loop, check out Bead Style Magazine's website.

Wear your new charm and enjoy!

Reversible!

Spring Cleaning

I recently undertook a big spring cleaning project at home. My husband and I moved into our house about a year ago now, but had never unpacked every box from the move. It was like Christmas finding all the things that I had forgotten about!

After the dust settled from my cleaning and organizing project at home, I decided to do the same thing here at Bizzy Beads. (Ah, but there wasn't actually any dust because I had just cleaned, right?) Anyway, look what I found here! These awesome interchangeable rings that we carried a few years ago. They were originally $32 and are now $13! These rings are so cool--they're sterling silver and you can take them apart to put different beads in to match any outfit! I have a few of each size, so stop by before they sell out.

In addition to these rings I've found a bunch of other stuff that I decided to mark down and pass your way. We have some kits that would make great gifts and some leftover bead pairs that would make awesome earrings. We also have a great big miscellaneous sale bead bowl, so you'll have to check that out too.

I hope you come in to reap the rewards of my spring cleaning efforts!

Happy Day, Mom!

I've had a lot of fun lately stamping sterling charms and flattened coins. Flattening pennies and dimes with a hammer and a steel block is quite the workout!

I've been wearing a pearl and sterling wire wrapped necklace with my "K" charm all the time lately. And so I realized that personalized charms would make the best gift for Mother's Day. String a bunch of initial charms on a simple chain with birthstones or just one charm. Whatever you think she'll like best.

Stop in before Mother's Day and we'll stamp a round charm (while supplies last) or coin for you for free (with purchase of the charm or coin)!
